SurfCraft are stoked to join the Ocean Beach Malibu Club as a new sponsor. We are all about our community and we are priviliged and stoked to support the crew at Ocean Beach Malibu Club.
A meeting in 1962, conducted in Stan Green’s garage located in Augusta St, Umina, lead to the creation of the original Ocean Beach Surfing Association with Kerry Purdon elected as the club’s inaugural president.
The club competed very successfully until the end of the 1966 season whereby, with the Vietnam War seeing some members drafted, others joining the larger Central Coast Surfing Association and some joining Sydney based clubs, the Ocean Beach Surfing Association disbanded.
A resurgence of surfers riding longboards in the late 1980’s led to the Ocean Beach Boardriders Club holding a longboard heat at the completion of their contests which continually grew in popularity. The Ocean Beach Malibu Club was officially formed in 1989, keeping the ‘Ocean Beach’ name as a tribute to the original club. Original members of the OBSA including Geoff Greenup, Harry Wall, John Young, Dennis ‘Chicka’ Knock along with Kerry Purdon were all a part of the reformed OBMC.
Each February sees a four-way interclub contest between the Ocean Beach Malibu Club, Shelly Beach Malibu Club, Wallarah Longboard Club (Catherine Hill Bay) and Central Coast Malibu Boardriders. Each year the hosting club nominates a charity to which the proceeds of the day are donated.
We joined the club just in time for their annual Central Coast Three way surf competition with all proceeds going to Central Coast kids in need and we look forward to supporting the club and community with such a great cause.
